Our "pet" charities

Here at Dab Hands our pets mean the world to us. We've even dedicated an entire line of our Zazzle products called "Rescued for Life" to our beloved rescues and send all the profits we make to special animal charities.

Here are links to three of those groups that we hold dear to our heart. A donation of $5, $10 or anything you can donate makes a huge difference in the lives of innocent animals who only want to be loved.

Canine Commitment of Maine and New Hampshire  rescues numerous dogs, mostly from the deep south. You can also find them on Facebook.

Forgotten Felines helps countless cats, feral and stray, in the state of Maine find loving homes or assists in maintaining colonies. You can also find them on Facebook.

PAWS of Dale Hollow is located in Tennessee and rescues numerous abandoned, stray or neglected dogs and helps to find them amazing homes in the Northeast and elsewhere. You can also find them on Facebook.

My sister and I can say from firsthand experience that these 3 organizations are full of dedicated, hardworking, selfless individuals who are determined to make life better for pets in need. We can't thank them enough for all they do.

Holiday coupon code

It's been a great holiday season so far for Dab Hands. Our first Christmas at Etsy has been fun and busy. We've had the chance to make a few Christmas wishes come true for some of our clients, which means it's been as active as Santa's workshop around here!

Let it snow!

Well, maybe not right now. There's still outdoor work to be done!

Thankfully, the only snowflakes I'm seeing at present are the ones on my newest creation. Go visit our shop and see what's new (quite a bit this last week) and take a better peek at this pretty snowflake box.

Have a blessed week, everyone!

Our new pup

OK, so he's a virtual pup, but that means you can play with him, too! On the right side of the page scroll down and you'll see him waiting for you. Click on the first two buttons to feed him, click on the white arrow to get his attention. The black arrow gets him to sit, click twice for lie down, 3 times for stretch out and hold down your left mouse clicker and make a circle around him to get him to roll over. My personal favorite is when you click on his ball and he chases it. Click on the little movie camera button and you can follow the chase. Leave him alone for a bit and he'll pace, have something to eat and drink, then fall asleep.

I love fun, silly stuff like this!

I've named the fish - or 1 at least. Now we must think up a good name for this cute pup! Suggestions?

Here fishy, fishy fishy

There's a new addition to our blog! Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll find our busy little fish tank full of 5 very hungry fish.

Stop in anytime to help me feed them. Just click your mouse anywhere on their tank area and food will appear. Watch out for the feeding frenzy!

Now what should we name them????

Shoot Like a Girl Photography

A tulip reaching toward the sun in Brooklyn. Ripples in the water in Venice. A random phrase in Austria. Lauren Jonik captures moments in time with aid of her camera and a fantastic eye for beauty and wisdom in the simplest of things.

You can find Lauren's images at her website, Shoot Like A Girl Photography and at her expanding shop at Etsy. To enjoy more of her work, you can follow Shoot Like A Girl on Facebook. Maybe you'll even see some photos of her contest winning cat, Sadie. Always a treat.

Here's a recent photo of Lauren's that's a favorite of mine. Enjoy!

If I had room for a sheep, some chickens, a cow, a horse or two and some goats, I'd have them. But since I don't, this wonderful kit is the next best thing.

There are just some things in life that make you happy the moment you lay eyes on them. This adorable little sheep sold by Bear Creek Design does just that. I dare you not to smile.

Tom Hoy at Etsy

Just discovered this amazing artist at Etsy named Tom Hoy and have spent the last half hour looking at the beautiful offerings in his shop, wishing I could buy every one of them.

Hope you'll all take a moment to stop in to Tom's shop and enjoy the views. For starters, here's his "Christmas Tree in the Woods".

And his "Perching Owl By Cabin".

First snow of the season

I think I spoke too soon about the first snowman of the season. A major winter storm is fast approaching my corner of Maine and may drop 6-12" of heavy wet snow by Sunday morning.

Here are a couple of photos of what my snowy world looks like. Blank notecards of the log cabin and the snowy field are available in our Etsy shop.

First snowman of the season

Sometimes you just find things that make you smile. I recently came across this dapper fellow with top hat, bow tie and dashing moustache from Beth's Craft Room at Etsy. He's the cutest snowman I've seen in awhile. But with a Maine winter fast approaching, he likely won't be the last!

New notecard

We're going to be adding several new blank notecards this week to our growing selection at Etsy. First up is a photo we took of our handsome border collie, Zeb, a few autumns ago. This notecard can be purchased at our Etsy shop and a magnet is also available at our Zazzle store.

Lemon Zucchini Bread

Besides painting and taking pictures, my sister and I love to cook. Here's a link to a recipe for a wonderful sounding bread sent to me by a friend. I can't wait to give it a try this week, using the zest from 2 lemons and 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice in place of the extract as my friend suggested.

If anyone bakes a loaf or two of the Lemon Zucchini Bread, let us know how it turns out.

Autumn Leaves

Many of the leaves are gone here in our part of Maine. But this photo keeps autumn alive all year-round. You can purchase a notecard or other products created from this lovely photo. If you'd like an item custom made from one of our images, just convo us through Etsy and we'll help in any way we can.

Hope everyone has a beautiful start to the upcoming week!

Our very first post

The idea of blogging is all very new so we'll start with something basic. Here's a link to one of our favorite shop items, a jewelry box.

This item took hours to create as each flower, leaf and vine was individually handmade. A great deal of work, but rewarding and fun. We're so glad to be able to share it with you.

For more photos (including the beautiful fabric that I used to line the trays), just click on the link above. And be sure to leave a comment and tell us what you think!
